The musical features a book by Fierstein who also co-stars in the show, a score by Bucchino and direction by John Doyle. The cast is led by Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Leslie Kritzer and Matt Cavenaugh and also features Philip Hoffman, Katie Klaus, Heather MacRae, Lori Wilner and Kristine Zbornik. The show reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair. The show is based on the 1956 feature film written by Gore Vidal, with an original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky.
Preview performances of A Catered Affair began March 25 with an April 17 opening night. Prior to Broadway, the piece inaugurated the 2007-2008 season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre. The Broadway run received three Tony nominations, 12 Drama Desk nominations and the Drama League's 2008 Best Musical Award.
Producer Jordan Roth added, "A Catered Affair stands as a jewel among musicals," and went on to thank the "brave work of all involved."
