Hair began previews on March 6 with a cast of 26 that includes Will Swenson, Gavin Creel and Caissie Levy. The show will not normally play on Monday nights, but a March 30 press preview had been scheduled.
With a score including enduring musical numbers like “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Aquarius,” “Good Morning Starshine” and the title song, Hair depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the 60s as told through a tribe of hopeful hippies living in New York City while war rages in Vietnam.
The current production began life as a 40th anniversary concert presentation by the Public Theater at the Central Park’s Delacorte Theater in September 2007, followed by a full production in the summer of 2008 featuring most of the current cast.
