Legally Blonde Star Orfeh to Release Solo CD What Do You Want From Me

Tony Award-nominated actress and recording artist Orfeh will release a new pop-flavored solo album, What Do You Want From Me, on September 30. The album, available on Sh-K-Boom Records, was produced by Andrew Logan and Pam Reswick, with guest production by Toby Gad producer of the 2006 Fergie hit “Big Girls Don't Cry”. Orfeh, who co-executive produced the CD with Logan, currently stars as showstopper Paulette in the Broadway musical Legally Blonde.

“The team I work with has made it feel so effortless to put together this record,” Orfeh told Broadway.com. “It was so much fun." The star recorded the album during her time in Blonde, working with producer Logan on two coasts throughout the process. “My main producer lives in L.A. and I do eight shows a week. Sometimes I can't believe we did it.”

An R&B-influenced collection with an urban influence, the album will feature Orfeh's signature big-voiced sound on a versatile collection of pop and songs, including “Sing You to Sleep” and the playful “Up Tempo Pop Song.” "A lot of songs have an R&B influence because that's what suits my voice, but everything has that radio-friendly, Top-40 vibe," Orfeh says.

Orfeh was signed to EMI records as the headliner of '90s dance group Or-N-More while still a teenager. In 1991 the group released its first self-titled album, which hit gold while climbing the Top 40 list; the album's single, “Everyotherday,” made it to #1 on the club music charts. After the group disbanded, Orfeh signed as a writer/producer with Warner/Chappell, penning songs for various artists before making her Broadway debut in the original company of Footloose.

As an actress, Orfeh gained accolades for her performance in Broadway's Fascinating Rhythm and Saturday Night Fever, leading to appearances on Sex and the City Chappelle's Show, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and the Julie Taymor film Across The Universe. Her current turn in Legally Blonde earned her a Best Featured Actress Tony nomination in 2007.

“Looking back, I feel I should have made more albums by now,” Orfeh says of finally releasing a solo CD. “But better late than never!"
