Spanish comedy troupe Yllana is coming to off-Broadway with 666. The show will begin performances at the Minetta Lane on March 30 and open there on April 15, 2010.
Described as Yllana’s “dirtiest and most demented show ever,” 666 begins when three dangerous criminals (Fidel Fernandez, Joseph Michael O’Courneen and Juan Francisco Ramos Toro) and one misplaced innocent (Raul Cano) arrive on death row. Incarceration ironically sets free their wildest fantasies as, trapped between the iron gates and an electrified fence, they interact with each other and with the audience. At the end of all the comically bungled executions, all hell, quite literally, breaks out. The show has been called “a rude and ribald collision between wordless Commedia dell’arte, physical theater and slapstick.”
The comedy theater troupe Yllana, which was born in 1991, has played throughout the world and in their native Spain where their year-round theater, The Alfil, presents the company’s many original works. Through gestures, sounds and slapstick, Yllana creates its work out of the most common situations of everyday life, combining energy with wit and risk. From the troupe’s first experience on the stage, it has produced 16 popular shows, many of which are still performed in repertory. These productions have been performed in 31 countries for nearly a million spectators.
