The sudden departure of Megan Mullally midway through rehearsals for Broadway’s Lips Together, Teeth Apart is now putting the Roundabout Theatre Company production on hold. Directed by Joe Mantello, the play was supposed to begin performances at the American Airlines Theatre on April 6 and open on April 29, 2010. No new dates have been set.
“We could not find a way to maintain the production schedule under these circumstances,” Roundabout Artistic Director Todd Haimes said in a statement. “We are now exploring options to produce a show for our subscribers as soon as possible.”
In addition to Mullally, the revival of the Terrence McNally comedy was to have featured Lili Taylor, Patton Oswalt and David Wilson Barnes. The producers originally planned to find a quick replacement for Mullally, who withdrew from the production amid rumors of conflict with the creative team.
