Director David Cromer Joins the Ranks of Broadway-Bound Yank!

David Cromer will direct the upcoming Broadway production of Yank! A WWII Love Story. As previously announced, Yank! will transfer to the Great White Way during the 2010-2011 season after a successful off-Broadway run earlier this year. Casting and other information will be announced at a later date.

Cromer recently received his third Lucille Lortel Award for Lincoln Center’s When the Rain Stops Falling. He also won for the off-Broadway revival of Our Town (in which he also appeared as the Stage Manager), and the musical Adding Machine. Cromer made his Broadway directorial debut in 2009 with the short-lived revival of Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs. His other credits include Orson’s Shadows and Tea Party/The Basement.

Yank! follows two soldiers fighting in World War II, who fall in love, but are forced to keep their relationship from their fellow servicemen. The show features music by Joseph Zellnik and book and lyrics by David Zellnik. The off-Broadway production, directed by Igor Goldin and starring Bobby Steggert, Ivan Hernandez, Jeffry Denman and Nancy Anderson, received seven Drama Desk nominations, two Outer Critics Circle nominations, and two Lucille Lortel Award nominations.
