British stage star Douglas Hodge came out a winner at the 2010 Tony Awards, taking home the prize for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for playing a drag star in La Cage aux Folles.
“Thank you so much,” he said from the stage of Radio City Music Hall. “What a welcome I’ve been given!”
During his speech, he directed much of his attention to his leading man in the show, fellow nominee Kelsey Grammer. “Behind every good wife is a great husband and he is just the best thing that’s happened to me on this adventure.”
He also referenced Grammer’s controversial conservative political leanings: “If you want to see a Democrat and a Republican, come to the Longacre Theatre!”
