You know you’ve made it as a singer when Cafe Carlyle (longtime cabaret home of Elaine Stritch and the late Bobby Short) comes calling. Of course, no one deserves an engagement at the swanky Upper East Side venue more than Sutton Foster. In fact, Foster’s incredible voice sometimes doesn’t get its due because audiences are so busy marveling at her gifts as a dancer and comedienne. On July 15, Sutton debuted a smashing new show that blended songs from her solo CD Wish (“Sunshine on My Shoulders”) with Broadway favorites (notably a medley of “Anyone Can Whistle” and “Being Alive”) and thrilled the crowd with “Defying Gravity.” Broadway.com captured the fabulous Ms. Foster in performance and greeting her many friends and admirers. If you miss her at the Carlyle, you can see Sutton in the play Trust at Second Stage beginning July 23.
