Earlier this week pop star Cyndi Lauper announched that she will team up with Tony winner Harvey Fierstein to compose a Broadway musical adaptation of the film Kinky Boots. Lauper, who appeared in the 2006 Broadway revival of The Threepenny Opera, is the latest of several musicians who came to fame during the 80s who've decided to pen their own Broadway show. In 2003 Boy George debuted his semi-autobiographical musical Taboo and earlier this month Bon Jovi's David Bryan took home a Tony Award for his score to current Broadway hit Memphis. The music of U2's Bono and The Edge will also swing on to Broadway this fall in Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark, while John Mellencamp's The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County is expected this season. Want more? A show from The Police frontman and solo star Sting is also rumored to be in the works. With so many artists of the totally awesome era adding "Broadway composer" to their resume we want to know: Which 80s music icon you'd like to see write a Broadway show next?
