Tony winners Nathan Lane, Idina Menzel, Audra McDonald, Tonya Pinkins, Karen Olivo, Marvin Hamlisch and Tony nominees Brian d'Arcy James and Chad Kimball will perform for President Barack Obama and wife Michelle in a Broadway-themed concert for PBS' In Performance on July 19 at the White House. A Broadway Celebration: In Performance at the White House will be filmed and air on PBS on October 20. President Obama will introduce the evening, which will also feature performances from young actress Assata Alston and the Joy of Motion Dance Center ensemble.
This won't be the first time the Obamas have witnessed some of Broadway's top talents. The president and his wife attended the revival of Joe Turner's Come and Gone last year, while Michelle brought her two daughters to see The Addams Family and Memphis earlier this spring. Memphis' Montego Glover and the cast of Mary Poppins also performed for the first couple at a recent Fourth of July celebration.
