Broadway couple Neil Patrick Harris (Assassins) and David Burtka (Gypsy) are expecting twins, the couple announced via Twitter on August 14. The soon-to-be-dads, who are having the babies by surrogate, expect their bundles of joy to arrive by October.
“So, get this: David and I are expecting twins this fall,” Harris Twittered from his account, @ActuallyNPH. “We’re super excited/nervous/thrilled. Hoping the press can respect our privacy.”
Harris’ Broadway credits include Cabaret, Proof and Assassins. A three-time 2010 Emmy Award nominee, he is best known for TV roles including Barney on How I Met Your Mother, Billy in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the title star in Doogie Howser, M.D.. Film credits include Starship Troopers, The Proposition, Undercover Brother, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The host of the 2009 Tony Awards, Harris also recently branched into directing, helming this summer’s Hollywood Bowl production of Pulitzer Prize winning hit Rent.
Burtka appeared on Broadway in the 2003 revival of Gypsy. His screen credits include The West Wing, Crossing Jordan, Open House, Worldly Possession, Army Guy, CSI: NY and How I Met Your Mother.
