Amanda Peet and Laurie Metcalf have signed on for MCC Theater’s 2010-2011 season, joining the company’s previously announced productions Neil LaBute’s The Break of Noon and Sharr White’s The Other Place, respectively. The Break of Noon, directed by Jo Bonney and co-starring the previously announced David Duchovny, begins previews at the Lucille Lortel Theater on October 28 with opening set for November 15. The Other Place, helmed by Tony winner Joe Mantello, takes the stage beginning March 10, 2011, with opening set for March 28.
The Break of Noon is described as a new drama that follows what happens after one man sees the face of God during the worst office shooting in American history.
Peet has appeared on Broadway in Barefoot in the Park and off-Broadway in This Is How it Goes (written by The Break of Noon playwright LaBute), Whale Music and Awake and Sing! On the big screen, she has been seen in The Whole Nine Yards, Something’s Gotta Give, A Lot Like Love, Saving Silverman and Syriana.
Metcalf will lead the cast of The Other Place, a drama that centers on Juliana Smithton, whose research into the molecular basis for Alzheimer's drugs has propelled her into elite scientific circles. When her private life takes a frightening turn, Juliana finds herself drowning in a sea of distorted memory, still struggling to reach out for help.
Metcalf appeared in last season’s Broadway revival of Brighton Beach Memoirs and the off-Broadway revival of A Lie of the Mind. A Tony Award nominee for November, she has also been seen in My Thing of Love. Off-Broadway credits include Balm in Gilead; Bodies, Rest and Motion and Educating Rita. Best known for her almost 10 years on the TV series Roseanne, the actress has also been seen onscreen in Scream 2, Bulworth, Runaway Bride, Malcolm in the Middle, Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.
