We’ve seen our share of opening numbers at awards shows, so it takes a lot to bowl us over. Well, host Jimmy Fallon did the trick at the start of the 2010 Emmy Awards when he joined Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer and an array of TV stars for a giddy Glee-themed opening. The premise was that the four young Glee stars couldn’t afford tickets to the Emmys, so Jimmy proposed competing for prize money. Into the theater they went, where they were joined by Tina Fey, “slushied” by Jane Lynch, rejected Kate Gosselin and attracted gleeks Jorge Garcia, Joel McHale, Nina Dobrev and a boogie-licious Jon Hamm. In cameo roles? The unlikely trio of Betty White, Tim Gunn and Randy Jackson. To the strains of “Born to Run,” the group ended up performing live, finishing the number with intricate choreography that delighted the audience.
