The Roundabout Theatre Company will host a ceremony to light the marquee of the newly named Stephen Sondheim Theatre on September 15. Frequent Sondheim collaborators Patti LuPone and John Weidman will participate, alongside Roundabout's board chairman Tom Tuft. Sondheim himself will also be present. Roundabout revealed their plans to rename the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, previously the Henry Miller's Theatre, earlier this year in honor of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning composer's 80th birthday.
Roundabout Theatre Company has produced several Sondheim productions including revivals of Company, Follies, Assassins, Pacific Overtures and Sunday in the Park with George as well last season's musical revue, Sondheim on Sondheim. Beginning October 26 a limited commerical run of The Pee-wee Herman Show will be the first show to play the theater with its new name and marquee, followed by Roundabout's production of Anything Goes in spring 2011.
