Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer will reunite with their fellow The Sound of Music cast members on The Oprah Winfrey Show on October 29 for the first time in 45 years. The Von Trapp Children, a singing group featuring members of the real-life von Trapp family, will also appear to pay tribute to the popular film based on Rodgers and Hammerstein's Tony winning musical.
Andrews (who starred as Maria) and Plummer (Captain von Trapp) will be joined by Charmian Carr (Liesl), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), Duane Chase (Kurt), Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Debbie Turner (Marta) and Kym Karath (Gretl).
The Sound of Music first opened on Broadway on November 16, 1959, starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. The show ran for 1,443 performances. The Robert Wise-directed film adaptation opened on March 2, 1965, and received five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film grossed over $158 million dollars in the U.S. alone and, adjusted for inflation, would rank as the third highest grossing film of all time.
