Former sitcom icon Sally Struthers may be above the title as Mama Morton at the Ogunquit Playhouse’s fall production of Chicago, but it was the chance to see two of Broadway’s top dancers hoofing it up as Roxie and Velma that got Broadway.com travelling north to Maine. On Broadway, Rachelle Rak and Angie Schworer started in the chorus and have bitten into larger parts (Rak in Fosse and The Look of Love and Schworer in a long run as Ulla in The Producers), but they’ve never had the chance to really take center stage like they do in Chicago. And why not? Both ladies were fantastic as the killer chorines in the well-loved musical (Rak as Velma, Schworer as Roxie), showing off strong pipes, jaw-dropping moves and real chemistry together. In fact, the next time the Broadway producers of Chicago are looking around for some new stars, we know who they should call! Joining Rak and Schworer in these backstage photos are Struthers (who added hilarious Mae West moves to her Mama), George Dvorsky as Billy Flynn, Paul Kreppel as Amos Hart and even President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush, theater fans who are regulars at the Playhouse. Chicago finishes its successful run this Sunday!
