Wicked veteran Megan Hilty is headed back to the Emerald City in the upcoming animated film Dorothy of Oz. Broadway.com caught up with the actress, who last appeared on the Great White Way in 9 to 5, to talk about the buzzed about project. "I've done about half [the vocals] and Bryan Adams is still writing music for me. Can you believe Bryan Adams is writing songs for this!" Hilty gushed. As the China Doll Princess, a character created specifically for the film, Hilty will have to torment a fellow Broadway girl, Glee star Lea Michele. "I start out very mean to Lea Michele, but then I come around towards the end," she said of the Princess. Any objection to being less than polite to the star of a smash TV series? "No, she's fantastic," Hilty laughed. "She's an old friend from [New York]."
Michele isn't the only other big name in the cast that shines as bright as those famous ruby slippers. "It’s Patrick Stewart, Kelsey Grammer, Lea Michele, Martin Short, all these huge names…and then there’s me," Hilty joked.
Hilty, who now calls Los Angeles home, is quite the busy girl these days as she returned to New York for a reading of the previously announced musical adaptation of Sleepless in Seattle." We have two shows this week that are closed and only for producers, backers and people like that," she said of the top secret event. "I'm not allowed to say too much, but we just had the first read through today and it's just amazing,"
Michelle Citrin, Michael Garin and Josh Nelson are composing the score for the show which is based on the popular 1993 film starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Hilty, who will take on the unlucky-at-love female lead, Annie, isn't afraid to channel romantic comedy queen Meg Ryan though. "I just got out of Dolly Parton’s shoes so nothing scares me anymore," she laughed referencing her role as Doralee Rhodes in 9 to 5.
