The previously announced Bridge Project production of Shakespeare's Richard III starring Tony and Oscar winner Kevin Spacey will kick off in June 2011 at London's Old Vic Theatre, where Spacey is artistic director. Directed by Sam Mendes, the play will run June 18-September 11 before embarking on an international tour that will culminate in a run at the Brooklyn Academy of Music January 10-March 4, 2012.
One of Shakespeare's earliest plays, Richard III tells the story of the quick rise and demise of the cunning king. A full company to be drawn from leading American and British actors will be announced soon.
The Bridge Project is a three-year transatlantic production partnership between BAM, London's Old Vic and Mendes' Neal Street Productions. Previous productions have included the Bard's As You Like It, The Winter's Tale and The Tempest.
