Top Hat, the 1935 Irving Berlin movie musical starring Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, is coming to the U.K. stage starring Summer Strallen and Tom Chambers, according to The Daily Mail. The show will feature direction by Matthew White and choreography by Bill Deamer.
The stage version of this screwball comedy will include the five Berlin songs from the original film—“Isn’t This A Lovely Day,” “Cheek To Cheek,” “No Strings,” “Piccolino” and the title song “Top Hat (White Tie And Tails),”—as well as additional songs from the Berlin catalog like “Let’s Face The Music And Dance” and “I’m Putting All My Eggs In One Basket.”
Strallen, who is currently starring as Meg Giry in The Phantom of the Opera sequel Love Never Dies in the West End, has previously appeared in The Drowsy Chaperone, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Cats and The Boyfriend. Chambers is currently starring in White Christmas in the U.K. and is the winner of the 2008 BBC reality TV show Strictly Come Dancing.
Top Hat will launch as a U.K. tour next summer, with plans to move to London in the winter of 2011.
