Robert Cuccioli will play the title character in the world premiere of SCKBSTD, opening January 18, 2011 at the Virginia Stage Company in Norfolk, VA. Tony winner John Rando will direct the piece, which features music by Grammy Award winner Bruce Hornsby.
In addition to Cuccioli, who earned a Tony nod for his role in Jekyll & Hyde, the cast of SCKBSTD will feature Kevin Mambo (Fela!), Jill Paice (Woman in White, Curtains), Marcus Lovett (King David, Aspects of Love), William Parry (Sunday in the Park With George), Jayne Paterson (Les Miserables, A Little Night Music), Brynn Williams (13, Bye Bye Birdie), Riley Costello (Everyday Rapture, Bye Bye Birdie), Garrett Long (South Pacific), Rosa Curry (The Rocky Horror Show, Steel Pier), Eugene Barry-Hill (The Lion King), Karl Warden and Ken Cavett.
The musical, whose title is the vanity license plate spelling of "sick bastard,” will include 19 original songs by three-time Grammy Award winner Hornsby. After a stranger (Cuccioli) moves into a small town and starts cruising the streets in his Dodge, the rumors fly. As an installment of the Virginia Stage Company’s “American Soil” series, the musical continues their exploration of life in southeastern Virginia.
The book for SCKBSTD is by Clay McLeod Chapman. Lyrics were co-written by Hornsby and Chip deMatteo. The creative team will include Kim Grigsby (musical supervision), Jodie Moore (music direction), Scott Wise (choreography), Narelle Sissons (scenic design), Robert Wierzel (lighting design), Jennifer Caprio (costume design), Jessica Paz (sound design), and Darrel Maloney (projection design).
