Tony-nominated Grey Gardens composer Scott Frankel and lyricist Michael Korie will reunite for a musical adaptation of the 2002 film Far From Heaven. Tony-winning playwright Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out) will write the book for the show, which was commissioned by off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizon. No casting or dates have been announced.
Far From Heaven tells the story of Cathy Whitaker, a 1950s housewife living in suburban Hartford who watches as her seemingly perfect life begin to fall apart. The film received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Julianne Moore and Best Original Screenplay for Todd Haynes.
The musical has been commissioned as part of the Playwrights Horizon Musicals in Partnership Initiative, made possible through a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
