Audiences showed their desire to get into the holiday spirit by snapping up more than $1.46 million in tickets to Elf, setting a record at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre while earning the new tuner a spot on both frontrunners’ lists. In a week in which the overall box office results dropped slightly, new entries Donny and Marie: A Broadway Christmas and Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark topped $1 million on truncated schedules of seven performances and six previews, respectively.
