January 9 was an emotional night for the cast of Broadway’s In The Heights, as the lights went down on the bodegas and fire escapes of their Broadway barrio for the final time. Several of the show’s original cast members had returned to play the final performances of the vibrant, latin-flavored musical, including Heights creator and original star, Lin-Manuel Miranda. After the final curtain call, the company was joined on stage by the whole Heights family, from crew members to producers, to celebrate their Broadway Cinderella story. The little-show-that-could began life at off-Broadway’s 37 Arts Theatre, where it opened on February 8, 2007, and then made the leap to Broadway on February 14, 2008, garnering four Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show closed after 1,185 performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, and Miranda sent it out in true hip-hop Heights style. Click through to check out this bittersweet Broadway goodbye!
