The 29th season of the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall will include a special evening starring Broadway vet Cheyenne Jackson. On November 18, the orchestra is set to present “Cheyenne Jackson’s Cocktail Hour: Music of the Mad Men Era.” Conducted by Pops music director Steven Reineke, the concert is described as centering on “the cool, swinging tunes of the 50s and 60s, a time when bossa nova was new, the lounges of New York City were hip, and catchy dance music spun on every hi-fi.” Jackson, who jumped from Broadway’s Xanadu and Finian’s Rainbow to TV’s 30 Rock and Glee, will perform hits of the era such as “Feeling Good,” “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sway.”
The Pops will begin its season on October 14 with “Irving Berlin: Rags to Ritzes,” featuring music of the legendary composer. Broadway performers to be featured in the concert include Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins), James T. Lane (The Scottsboro Boys), Hugh Panaro (The Phantom of the Opera) and NaTasha Yvette Williams (The Color Purple).
The orchestra’s annual holiday concerts on December 16 and 17 will feature Broadway vet Jessica Molaskey and her husband, jazz crooner John Pizzarelli, in “John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey Wish You a Swingin’ Christmas.”
