Lost in the Stars, the 1949 musical by composer Kurt Weill and lyricist/librettist Maxwell Anderson based on Alan Paton’s novel Cry, the Beloved Country, is currently experiencing a four-performance revival as part of New York City Center’s Encores! series. This rarely seen musical centers on two aging South African men—one black, one white—bound by grief in a country ruled by apartheid. Gary Griffin directs the show, and with a cast that includes Tony winner Chuck Cooper, Tony nominee Daniel Breaker and Broadway-bound Sister Act star Patina Miller, it’s easy to get Lost in awe—check out the video below!
