Rising star Willow Smith is currently prepping to star as Annie in an upcoming remake of the classic musical and recently revealed to Access Hollywood who she'd like to star as her Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks: Brad Pitt! No word yet on if the famous father himself is interested in taking on the iconic role of the millionaire.
The young actress remained mum on other details about the project, which is being produced by her father Will Smith and Jay-Z. "You're just going to have to wait!" she teased. Glee creator Ryan Murphy is a top choice for director of the project.
Pitt received Academy Award nominations for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Twelve Monkeys. His many other film credits include Inglourious Basterds, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Babel, Ocean's Eleven, Seven, Fight Club, Mr. and Mrs Smith and Snatch.
Annie first opened on Broadway on April 21, 1977 and ran for 2,377 performances. Featuring music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan, the musical took home seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The musical has previously been adaptated for the big screen in 1982 and again as a 1999 made-for-TV movie. A James LaPine-directed revival is eyeing a Broadway run in 2012.
