Fresh off a world premiere production at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre, Bring It On: The Musical has booked a six-week engagement at L.A.’s Ahmanson Theatre as first stop on a national tour. The new tuner will open the Ahmanson’s 2011-2012 season running from November 1 through December 11, with opening night set for November 11, directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler.
Bring It On features a book by Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q), music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights), music by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyrics by Amanda Green (High Fidelity). The show mixes the high-stakes world of competitive cheerleading and cutthroat high school politics to tell the story of the heir apparent to the head cheerleader at Truman High School. Campbell has it all: a strong squad, a doting boyfriend and a straight path to the national championships. When a surprise letter arrives, Campbell's world is thrown upside down.
The Atlanta production of Bring It On featured Amanda Lea LaVergne as Campbell alongside Kate Rockwell, Adrienne Warren, Kelly Felthous and Nick Blaemire. No casting has been announced for the L.A. production or tour.
