Looks like Academy Award nominee Colin Firth is hopping from playing a man with a speech impediment to taking on the role of speech therapist. Firth may join the previously announced film remake of My Fair Lady as professor Henry Higgins, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail.
Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan, who will be seen off-Broadway this spring in Through a Glass Darkly, is expected to take on the role of Eliza Doolittle in the film, which features a reworked screenplay from Oscar winner Emma Thompson. Hugh Grant, Daniel Craig and Daniel Day-Lewis have previously been rumored as candidates for the role.
This year Firth earned his second Oscar nomination for The King's Speech. He was also a nominee for A Single Man. His many other film credits include Love Actually, Bridget Jones' Diary, Then She Found Me, What a Girl Wants, Girl With a Pearl Earring and the movie musical Mamma Mia!
The original film version of My Fair Lady was released in 1964, starring Rex Harrison (recreating his stage role as Higgins) and Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle. The remake is produced by Duncan Kenworthy and Cameron Mackintosh.
