London’s National Theater has announced additional casting and creative team members for the spring offerings of its 2011 season, to join previously announced stage luminaries like Zoe Wanamaker and Henry Goodman.
Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, adapted by Andrew Upton, will bow at the Olivier Theatre on May 10 with an official opening May 17. Zoe Wanamaker will star as Ranyevskaya; the cast also includes Claudie Blakley, Mark Bonnar, Pip Carter, Kenneth Cranham, Paul Dodds, Craige Els, Mark Fleischmann, Colin Haigh, Conleth Hill, Gerald Kyd, James Laurenson, Tim McMullan, Jessica Regan, Tim Samuels, Emily Taaffe, Stephanie Thomas, Joseph Thompson, Rosie Thomson, Ellie Turner, Charity Wakefield and Sarah Woodward. The production will be designed by Bunny Christie with lighting by Neil Austin, music by Dominic Muldowney and sound by Paul Groothuis. Howard Davies will direct.
Complete casting has been announced for documentary musical London Road, with book and lyrics by Alecky Blythe and music and lyrics by Adam Cork, which opens at the Cottesloe Theatre on April 14 directed by Rufus Norris. The cast is Clare Burt, Rosalie Craig, Kate Fleetwood, Hal Fowler, Nick Holder, Claire Moore, Michael Shaeffer, Nicola Sloane, Paul Thornley, Howard Ward and Duncan Wisbey. The designer is Katrina Lindsay, with lighting by Bruno Poet, music direction by David Shrubsole, movement by Javier de Frutos and sound by Paul Arditti.
Richard Bean’s One Man, Two Guvnors, helmed by National artistic director Nicholas Hytner, begins performances May 17 and opens May 24 at the Lyttleton Theatre. James Corden heads the cast, which also includes Oliver Chris, Martyn Ellis, Trevor Laird, Claire Lams, Fred Ridgeway, Daniel Rigby, Jemima Rooper and Suzie Toase. The production will be designed by Mark Thompson, with lighting by Mark Henderson, music by Grant Olding and sound design by Paul Arditti.
Jonathan Kent directs Emperor And Galilean by Henrik Ibsen, in a new version by Ben Power, opening in the Olivier on June 15. Andrew Scott and Ian McDiarmid sill star; the cast also includes Jamie Ballard, Simon Coombs, Daniel Flynn, John Heffernan, Chris Jared, James McArdle, Simon Merrells, Carole Nimmons, Genevieve O’Reilly, Lara Rossi, Prasanna Puwanarajah and Sargon Yelda. The production will be designed by Paul Brown with lighting by Mark Henderson, music by Jonathan Dove, video by Nina Dunn, movement by Denni Sayers and sound by Christopher Shutt.
A Woman Killed With Kindness by Thomas Heywood will be directed by Katie Mitchell and open July 19 in the Lyttelton Theatre. The production will be designed by Lizzie Clachan and Vicki Mortimer, with lighting by Jon Clark, movement by Joseph Alford and sound by Gareth Fry.
Following its UK tour, Nicholas Hytner’s acclaimed production of Hamlet, with starring Rory Kinnear in the title role, will return to the National for a 12 performances in the Lyttelton Theatre, from April 13 – 23.
