Casting has been announced for the off-Broadway production of Go Back to Where You Are, written by and starring David Greenspan. Directed by Leigh Silverman, the production will begin previews March 24 and open on April 12 at Playwrights Horizons’ Peter Jay Sharp Theater.
In addition to the previously announced Greenspan, the cast of Go Back to Where You Are will feature Lisa Banes, Stephen Bogardus, Tim Hopper, Brian Hutchison, Michael Izquierdo and Mary Schultz.
Banes’ Broadway credits include Present Laughter and Arcadia, and off-Broadway’s Look Back in Anger. Bogardus has been seen in Broadway’s James Joyce’s The Dead, White Christmas and Falsettos. Hopper has appeared on Broadway in Present Laughter and off-Broadway in Almost an Evening, The Dying Gaul and Picasso at the Lapin Agile. Hutchison’s Broadway credits include Exit the King, Proof and The Invention of Love. Izquierdo has appeared off-Broadway in New Jerusalem and Mother Courage. Shultz’s stage credits include Sustained Excellence, Small Tragedy, The Wax, Little Egypt, Slavs! and Mad Forest.
In this melancholy comic romance, a forgotten chorus boy (Greenspan) from the theater of Ancient Greece has been stuck in a lonely purgatory these past 2000 years and is sent back to Earth on a mission from God. He now finds himself among a vacationing family in Montauk, caught off-guard by his re-discovered ability to feel love.
The production will feature scenic design by Rachel Hauck, costume design by Theresa Squire and lighting design by Matt Frey. The limited engagement will play through May 1.
