Rockabilly tuner Million Dollar Quartet is welcoming two new faces to the Broadway production. Former understudies Erik Hayden is now playing Carl Perkins alongside Victoria Matlock as Dyanne and previously announced Jared Mason, who bowed on March 15 as Jerry Lee Lewis. They join original cast members Eddie Clendening (Elvis Presley) and Lance Guest (Johnny Cash), with James Moye as Sam Phillips.
Hayden has been understudying the roles of Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins in Million Dollar Quartet, which is his Broadway debut. His touring credits include Spamalot, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Buddy: the Buddy Holly Story. Matlock made her Broadway debut understudying the role of Dyanne in Million Dollar Quartet, her national tours include Wicked, Evita and The Full Monty.
Inspired by the famed December 4, 1956, recording session that brought together four rock icons, Million Dollar Quartet recreates the historic day in the Memphis Sun Records studio when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins took part in an impromptu jam session. The show includes some of the actual songs that were performed on the day as well as standards for the quartet including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On.”
