The new Broadway musical The Book of Mormon has been launched with a marketing campaign proclaiming the show "God's Favorite Musical." That tongue-in-cheek (we think!) slogan got us thinking about other religious-oriented shows that have graced the New York stage over the years and might deserve a shot at the title. From the spring season's Sister Act to Andrew Lloyd Webber classics Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, musicals have dared to address heavenly themes in song.
