On March 31, the Tony Awards Administration Committee met for a third time during the 2010-2011 theater season to consider the eligibility of three Broadway shows that opened this winter: Good People, That Championship Season and Arcadia.
The committee has determined that Frances McDormand, who plays South Boston resident Margie in David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People, will be considered eligible in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play.
Jim Gaffigan, Chris Noth, Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland will all be considered eligible in the category of Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for their respective performances in That Championship Season.
All other decisions were consistent with the opening night credits. In practical terms, this means that only Brian Cox will be considered in the lead actor category for That Championship Season, and McDormand's co-star Tate Donovan and the rest of the Good People cast—as well as the entire cast of Arcadia—will be considered in the featured actor and actress categories.
As previously reported, the committee met for the first time on December 9, 2010, and will meet a total of four times throughout the 2010-2011 season to decide on eligibility. The Tony ceremony will be broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre on June 12, 2011.
