Hugh Jackman Previews His One-Man Show and Hints at a Broadway Comeback

Hugh Jackman is in the final stages of prep for his solo concerts at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre, where he’s set to appear May 3-15. “I’ve been working on my one-man show in my head for about 15 years, but now it’s finally happening,” he told Broadway.com on opening night of Catch Me If You Can. “I’m excited to go to the Curran Theatre and then over the summer do it in a few other places, with the hope of one day maybe coming here.”

Jackman’s many Broadway fans shouldn’t get too excited, however: “I don’t know which season or when [the one-man show might make it to Broadway]. I’m also looking to come back and do a show show on Broadway, so probably that will be first.” Jackman’s name has been attached to an in-the-works Broadway musical about Harry Houdini with a book by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin and music by Danny Elfman. His solo concerts will be directed by Warren Carlyle (Finian’s Rainbow, A Tale of Two Cities).

Asked about the songs on tap for lucky San Francisco audiences, Jackman said, “Half will be theater stuff, and half will be things that just sort of tickle my fancy.” Referring to his Tony-winning role in The Boy From Oz, Jackman added, “A little Peter Allen might come out. You never know.” Pressed to name his favorite Broadway song, Jackman said, “Probably ‘Soliloquy’ from Carousel. I think it’s one of the most perfect songs ever written for an actor. I will be singing that one. There’s a scoop for you!”
