Joely Richardson and Cotter Smith will star in MCC Theater's previously announced production of Michael Weller's Side Effects. Directed by David Auburn, performances begin on June 2 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, with opening night set for June 19.
A follow-up to 2008 MCC hit Fifty Words, Side Effects is the story of what happened on the other end of the line during a dramatic phone call at the culmination of the earlier play. Hugh (Smith) and Lindy (Richardson) appear to be a perfectly married couple. Behind closed doors, however, the couple's relationship begins to fall apart as Hugh's political ambitions take a hit.
Richardson has appeared on stage in the West End's Lady Windermere's Fan and Miss Julie as well as Macbeth, Worlds Apart, Every Man in His Humor and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Her many film and TV credits include Nip/Tuck, The Tudors, The Last Mimzy, The Affair of the Necklace, The Patriot and the upcoming The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
Smith's Broadway credits include Next Fall, An American Daughter and Burn This. He has appeared off-Broadway in Kin, How I Learned to Drive, The Dying Gaul, Border Lines, El Salvador and Empty Hearts.
