After a week of fan voting, nominations have been announced for the 12th Annual Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards, the only major theater prize chosen by Broadway theatergoers.
Topping the list of this year's nominees is the musical Sister Act, which received a total of nine nominations including Favorite Musical. Leading lady Patina Miller received the most nominations for an individual performer with four, nominated in the categories of Favorite Actress in a Musical, Favorite Diva Performance, Favorite Breakthrough Performance and Favorite Onstage Pair (with co-star Victoria Clark).
Catch Me If You Can, the musical based on the true story of con man Frank Abagnale, Jr., received seven nods including Favorite Musical and two nominations each for stars Norbert Leo Butz and Aaron Tveit. Songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman found two of their Catch Me compositions honored in the Favorite Song race.
Two starry revivals will battle in the Favorite Musical Revival category: Anything Goes and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Anything Goes landed five nominations, including three for its leading lady, past Audience Choice Award winner Sutton Foster. How to Succeed is up for six awards with stars Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette being honored in multiple categories.
Two new categories were added to the awards this year. Theatergoers who enjoy Broadway around the country have determined Jersey Boys, Les Miserables, The Lion King, Next to Normal and Wicked worthy in the category of Favorite Tour. Also new? Favorite Funny Performance, with nominees Nick Adams (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Laura Benanti (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), Kathy Griffin (Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony), Larroquette and David Hyde Pierce (La Bete).
The Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards will be presented at a swanky affair at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Sunday, May 15.
