This may be her first time on Broadway, but Sister Act star Patina Miller has already rocketed to the head of the class when it comes to red carpet fashion. Since opening as aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Carter on April 20, Miller has been turning heads with her sartorial sense every step-and-repeat of the way. Her choice in dresses, from fabulous fashion houses such as Balmain and Oscar de la Renta, is equal parts glamorous and gutsy, sophisticated without being stuffy, and more than a little influenced by her character's love of glitz. Miller brings out her gorgeous complexion with the judicious use of bright colors and often highlights her gams with shorter hemlines and sky-high heels from the likes of Christian Louboutin and Alexander McQueen. Stay tuned to see what this fashion plate serves up on Tony night!
Setting a Gold Standard
Broadway, here I am! After getting the opening night crowd at the Broadway Theatre on its feet, this newly minted star greeted the press in a bold, body-conscious gold dress from Balmain. Miller kept the look fashion-forward with gold accessories, a slick, sleek high ponytail and shoes from Alexander McQueen. It’s not easy to out-fabulous Deloris, but we’re pretty sure Patina pulled it off.
Presenting Patina Miller!
Lending her star power as a presenter at the 2011 Lucille Lortel Awards (honoring the best of off-Broadway) on May 1, Miller showed off her shoulders in a softly draped strapless red dress from London retailer Oasis. Paired with platform pumps by Christian Louboutin, a simple updo and smoky eyes, she was the picture of sophistication.
Tickled Pink
The day after nabbing her Best Actress Tony nod, Miller selected this stunner from French designer Roland Mouret for the May 3 nominee press reception (or ‘Tony Brunch’ as the showbiz folk call it). The classic sheath shape and mid-calf length keep it both classy and classic, while the plunging neckline and bright coral color keep it from being staid. A chic chignon and Alexander McQueen peep-toes complete this press-worthy look.
Prima Patina
It was back to glamourpuss on May 15 for Broadway.com's Audience Choice Awards. The ash-gray color of Miller's strapless Karen Millen dress kept the tutu-style skirt and paneled corset bodice from being fussy, and the star kept the attention on her detailed dress with simple Judith Ripka jewelry and her favorite black Louboutin platform pumps.
Green Light-ed
Spring had sprung by the time the Drama League Awards luncheon rolled around on May 20, and Miller showed her love in a kelly green one-shoulder dress by Oscar de la Renta. The cocktail length frock was set off by pink suede Louboutin peep-toes, a snakeskin clutch and two bracelets from Joan Hornig. Add in face-framing curls and soft pink lipstick, and Miller is every inch a lady who lunches.
Glam Level: Red
Does anything scream "star quality" better than a red dress by Valentino? Miller selected exactly that for the Drama Desk Awards on May 23. A dash or two of Joan Hornig jewelry peeked through her low-maintenance waves, echoed by an ever-elegant sparkly clutch. Crimson dress and lips, great legs and a great smile? Red carpet glamour gold.
Fresh as a Daisy
Miller kept things young and fun in a fuchsia print number from PRIM New York when accepting her Theatre World Award for outstanding Broadway debut performance on June 7. Though the dress pops with green and yellow accents, Miller added an accent of her own with cheeky turquoise toenails, just visible through her satin peep-toes.
