Broadway vet Frenchie Davis has been hand-picked by pop diva Christina Aguilera as a semi-finalist on the NBC singing competition The Voice.
An emotional Davis was chosen on the live June 14 episode of the hit show, in which eight singers on “Team Christina” and “Team Blake” (led by country crooner Blake Shelton) were cut down to four. The top vote-getter in each team automatically advanced, with the second semi-finalist chosen by the superstar team leader.
After rocker Beverly McClellan was named the singer who received the most votes, Aguilera announced her choice as Davis, who cried at the news. Davis scored on last week’s episode with her performance of the David Guetta dance song “When Love Takes Over” and a group performance of “Lady Marmalade” alongside Aguilera.
After appearing on Season Two of American Idol, Davis became a Broadway regular with a long run in the hit musical Rent.
