Kristin Chenoweth, Edie Falco and Nathan Lane are among the Broadway vets who received nominations for 2011 prime-time Emmy Awards. The Emmy ceremony will be held on September 18 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Glee star (and 2011 outstanding supporting actress nominee) Jane Lynch.
Tony winners Chenoweth and Lane received Emmy nominations for their guest appearances as April Rhodes on Glee and Pepper Saltzman on Modern Family, respectively. Chenoweth’s competition includes Glee players Dot-Marie Jones (Coach Beiste) and Gwyneth Paltrow (Holly Holliday). Also representing Glee is supporting actor nominee Chris Colfer.
Falco, nominated for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for Nurse Jackie, is up against two other Tony-nominated theater vets, Laura Linney (for The Big C) and Martha Plimpton (for Raising Hope).
The lead actor in a comedy category also includes three Broadway vets: Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki for The Big Bang Theory and Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock. Tony winner Jane Krakowski and show creator Tina Fey also drew acting nominations for 30 Rock.
Other Broadway vets who received Emmy nominations include Michael C. Hall (lead actor in a drama for Dexter), Alan Cumming (supporting actor in a drama series for The Good Wife), Maggie Smith (supporting actress in a miniseries of movie for Downton Abbey), Brian F. O’Byrne (supporting actor in a miniseries or movie for Mildred Pierce) and Margo Martindale (supporting actress in a drama series for Justified).
In other categories, HBO's film adaptations of The Pee-Wee Herman Show on Broadway and Carrie Fisher in Wishful Drinking received nominations for outstanding variety, music or comedy special. The 64th Annual Tony Awards (hosted by Sean Hayes) nabbed nominations for outstanding special class program, plus outstanding direction and writing.
