If you loved the Tony Awards rap wrap-up Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote for host Neil Patrick Harris last month, you’re in luck: There may soon be more Miranda numbers on the air! Freestyle Love Supreme, the New York-based freestyle rap and comedy group featuring Tony winner Miranda, will get a pilot on the Adult Swim network, produced by Adult Swim and Ars Nova.
Based on the acclaimed stage show of the same name created by In the Heights director Thomas Kail and The Electric Company’s Anthony Veneziale, Freestyle Love Supreme will star Miranda and Utkarsh Ambudkar, with Veneziale and Chris “Shockwave” Sullivan (The Electric Company).
While the stage version of Freestyle Love Supreme is entirely improvised based on audience suggestions, the pilot will be scripted and include original music by Miranda and composer/producer Bill Sherman (Sesame Street, The Electric Company, In the Heights). Jon Steingart, Jill Furman, Thomas Kail, Anthony Veneziale and Jillian Apfelbaum are executive producers.
