Things are heating up at off-Broadway's St. Luke's Theatre, where Miche Braden stars as iconic 1920s blues legend Bessie Smith in The Devil's Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith. Braden takes the stage to perform many of Smith's biggest hits, including "I Ain't Got Nobody" and "Tain't Nobody's Bizness If I Do," while recounting the singer's emotional rags-to-riches story. Despite her rising success on the charts, Smith still battled a racist music industry as well as her own struggle with alcohol and a rocky marriage. Broadway.com caught up with the multitalented Braden to talk about Smith's legacy and find out why that devil music is still so scorching after all these years. Take a look below!
