The annual Broadway on Broadway concert has been canceled for 2011 because of events surrounding the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The outdoor concert is traditionally held on the Sunday after Labor Day, which falls this year on September 11. The concert will return in a 20th anniversary edition in fall 2012.
To mark the 9/11 anniversary, the Broadway community will gather in Duffy Square on September 9 at 4:00PM in support of a 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance to encourage the public to perform good deeds, support charitable causes and volunteer in tribute to 9/11 victims and survivors. A group of Broadway performers will perform John Kander & Fred Ebb's "New York, New York." Details on the event will be forthcoming.
