Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth is readying to release her new country album, Some Lessons Learned, on September 13 and the former Broadway.com Star of the Year recently sat down with Perez Hilton to talk about the recording.
“I’ve always wanted to [do a country album], but I don’t know if I’d be accepted,” she said of getting back to her Oklahoma roots. “I don’t want to look like I’m just waltzing in and saying, ‘Now, I’m doing country.’ It’s something I’ve been doing my whole life.” Chenoweth co-wrote two songs on the album, including an ode to her idol Dolly Parton called “What Would Dolly Do?”
Chenoweth’s album isn’t her only Southern-influenced project on the horizon: she’ll play a religious mean girl on TV’s upcoming series Good Christian Belles. “I’m a pretty forward-thinking Southern person, so I thought Good Christian Bitches was hilarious,” she says of the series’ original title. “Being a Christian, I wouldn’t do anything that I feel would make terrible fun of my faith. I think there’s a difference with making fun of and having fun with and that’s what our show does.”
While Belles will air on ABC, that doesn’t necessarily prevent Chenoweth from reprising her Emmy-nominated role, April Rhodes, on FOX’s hit series Glee. “It hasn’t been discussed,” she says of the chances of her returning to McKinley High. “I have it in my contract to be able to go to Glee if I’m asked. April Rhodes is such a hot, fun, train wreck to watch and I love her.”
