Billie Piper will star in the U.K. premiere of Neil LaBute’s Reasons to Be Pretty, directed by Michael Attenborough. She will be joined by Kieran Bew, Siân Brooke and Tom Burke in the play, which will begin performances at London’s Almeida Theatre on November 10. Opening night is set for November 17.
Greg (Burke), is overheard admitting that his girlfriend Steph (Brooke) is no beauty, but that he wouldn't change her for the world. She is devastated; he can't quite see what he's done wrong. Meanwhile, Greg's best friend Kent (Bew) alternates between boasting about how gorgeous his wife Carly (Piper) is, and chasing after a hot new colleague.
Piper is best known for television roles like Rose in Doctor Who and Belle in The Secret Diary of a Call Girl, as well as parts in A Passionate Woman, Mansfield Park and Shadow in the North. She made her stage debut in Treats at the Garrick Theatre. Bew’s previous theatre credits include The Knot of the Heart, The House of Special Purpose and Richard II. Brooke can currently be seen in Stephen Poliakoff's My City at the Almeida; other London theatre credits include Ecstasy, Wanderlust, Dido, Queen of Carthage, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet and King Lear. Burke’s London theater credits include Macbeth, Design For Living, Creditors, The Cut, Glass Eels and Restoration.
Reasons to Be Pretty premiered with a successful run at off-Broadway’s Lucille Lortel Theatre in May 2008, before beginning a Tony-nominated run at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre the following April. A West End premiere rumored for spring of 2011, starring Julia Stiles and America Ferrara, never materialized.
The limited London engagement is scheduled to close on January 14, 2012.
