Broadway vets Barbara Walsh, Kate Wetherhead, Paul Anthony Stewart and Sally Wilfert will star in two benefit performances of Side by Side by Sondheim, to launch the inaugural season of Singing OnStage Productions. Artistic director Richard Biever will direct the performances, which will take place on September 13 and 15 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre at the West Bank Cafe.
Side By Side By Sondheim is a musical revue of works from musicals by Stephen Sondheim. It features music and lyrics by Sondheim, as well as music by Leonard Bernstein, Mary Rodgers, Richard Rodgers and Jule Styne. The show debuted on Broadway in 1977 and was nominated for five Tonys, including Best Musical.
Walsh, who will play the Narrator, received a Tony nomination for Falsettos and has appeared on Broadway in Company, Hairspray and Big, among others. Stewart’s Broadway credits include The People in the Picture, Cyrano: The Musical and Fiddler on the Roof. Wilfert’s Broadway credits include Assassins and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Wetherhead has been seen in Legally Blonde and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Singing OnStage Productions is a new company committed to developing new musicals and new talent by providing audition classes, showcase classes taught by industry leaders and producing showcase productions, all of which give participants the opportunity to hone their craft and to be seen by casting directors, directors, agents and other industry. In addition, SOS’s unique Music Director Training Program will allow musicians to develop their works and to learn from industry leaders the skills necessary to be a successful music director.
