Robert Sheehan (TV's Misfits), Olivier Award nominee Ruth Negga (Duck) and Niamh Cusack (Dancing at Lughansa) and will star in the Old Vic's forthcoming production of John Millington Synge's The Playboy of the Western World. Directed by John Crowley, the play begins its run at the London venue on September 17, with opening night set for September 27.
The cast also includes Gwendolen Chatfield, Karen Cogan, John Cormack, Drew Dillon, Christopher Doyle, Diarmuid de Faoite, James Greene, Grainne Keenan, Frank Laverty, Gary Lydon, Bronagh Taggart and Kevin Trainor.
First performed at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in 1907, Playboy follows lonely dreamer Christy Mahon (Sheehan) as he seeks refuge at a County Mayo pub after he claims to have killed his oppressive father. While at the inn, he charms a local woman named Quinn (Cusack) and romances the landlord's daughter, Pegeen (Negga).
