Tony winner David Hyde Pierce will star in the Vineyard Theatre's Developmental Lab production of John Kander and Greg Pierce's The Landing. Directed by Scott Ellis, the off-Broadway lab production will take place at a yet-to-be-announced date in the spring of 2012. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Pierce earned a Tony Award for Kander & Ebb's Curtains and received the special Isabelle Stevenson Award in 2010 for his work as a humanitarian. He has appeared on Broadway in La Bete, Accent on Youth, Spamalot, The Heidi Chronicles and Beyond Therapy and is scheduled to star in Manhattan Theatre Club's off-Broadway production of Molly Smith Metzler's Close Up Space, beginning December 1. On TV, Pierce received four Emmy Awards for TV's Frasier. His other TV and film credits include The Simpsons, Down With Love, Wet Hot American Summer and A Bug's Life.
The Landing is a collection of three related one-act musicals written by Kander and his new collaborator, Greg Pierce. This marks Kander's first full theatrical collaboration with a new writer since Fred Ebb (his writing partner on classic musicals like Chicago and Cabaret) passed away in 2004.
