Annie Baker, the acclaimed author of Circle Mirror Transformation and The Aliens, will debut a new adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya at Soho Rep beginning June 7, 2012. Circle Mirror vets Reed Birney and Sam Gold will play the title role and direct, respectively, in a production to be "staged in a contemporary, immersive setting within Soho Rep's theater," according to the company's website.
The company’s 2011-2012 season kicks off with David Adjmi’s Elective Affinities, a site-specific event inviting audiences into the apartment of a witty octogenarian who offers a funny and savage portrait of cultured life. Performances begin November 17 at a yet-to-be-determined venue, opening November 29.
Also on tap is the New York premiere of Marius von Mayenburg’s The Ugly One which will begin performances on January 26, 2012, directed by Daniel Aukin. The play is described as a satire on contemporary capitalism.
