Two-time Tony nominee Kathleen Turner will reprise her recent Broadway role in the upcoming national tour of Matthew Lombardo's High, launching December 6-11 at Boston’s Cutler Majestic Theatre. She will be joined by her Broadway co-star Evan Jonigkeit, wiith Broadway understudy Timothy Altmeyer in the role of Father Michael Delpapp, created by Stephen Kunken. Rob Ruggiero will again direct.
High centers on Sister Jamison Connelly (Turner), who finds her faith tested after agreeing to sponsor a 19-year-old hustler and drug user (Jonigkeit) in an effort to combat his addiction. Struggling between the knowledge she possesses as a rehabilitation counselor and her own moral convictions, she begins to question the belief in miracles and whether people can find the courage to change.
Following its stop in Boston, the High national tour is also planning to hit Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Chicago and San Francisco, though dates beyond Boston have yet to be announced. In addition, a London production of the show is scheduled for the summer of 2012.
High began life in July 2010, when the play premiered at TheaterWorks in Hartford, Connecticut, followed by runs at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park in September and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis in October 2010. High began performances at Broadway’s Booth Theatre on March 25 and opened on April 19, closing on April 24.
