The stars certainly aligned for the one-night-only reading of Dustin Lance Black’s 8, which took place on September 19 at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. The lineup of talent on and off the stage was almost impossibly starry and included Morgan Freeman, John Lithgow, Ellen Barkin, Cheyenne Jackson, director Joe Mantello and many more. Based on actual trial transcripts, first-hand observations of the courtroom drama and interviews with plaintiffs and families, 8 follows the final days of the federal legal challenge to California's Proposition 8, which eliminated the right for gay and lesbian couples to marry in California. Broadway.com was on hand to capture the event, produced by Broadway Impact and American Foundation for Equal Rights.
